Beast mode

Jan 2016

The idea for this piece spawns from some of the artist’s previous work that never came to fruition. In lieu of painting what he felt was a piñata stick, Beast Mode was created. The act of constructing the installation reminded the artist to protect integrity.

Beast Mode explores the behavior that is learned through culture. We adopt cultural behavior and are expected to live within parameters. Yet there are moments that we must abide by specific rules, and must ignore what has already been learned. Beast Mode represents the courage to change and not be constrained by social norms. It is an uprising. An end to restrictions set forth by others (i.e. breaking a piñata and not being able to reap the benefits of the candy, not being able to voice your opinions, etc.)
